Struggling to ignite that creative spark and come up with interesting topics for your upcoming webinars? It’s not always easy to pull engaging webinar topic ideas out of a hat, but you’ll be glad to know that you can retire the focus maps and procrastination and instead, focus on creating content that will provide value for your audience.

During your webinar ideation stage, there are four simple questions you should ask yourself and you team to point you in the right direction and keep you focused on the overall goal for the webinar. We have compiled this list of questions below to help you take your webinars to the next level.

1. What issues do your customers face?

Looking to the people who know you best, your client base, for inspiration for webinar ideas is an effective way to come up with topics - regardless of the content you want to create.

However, when it comes to webinars, if you customers have been particularly vocal about certain issues related to products/services why not consider creating a webinar to address them? E.g. Users are having trouble using the webcam functionality on your webinar platform, then, this is the perfect opportunity to run a ‘how-to’ webinar showing customers how to use the webcam during their presentations.

Webinars allow you to explore the problem(s) in greater detail and your audience will be more likely to attend the event. Doing so will also establish brand trust, as you are addressing issues they have vocalized, so they feel like they are being heard.

2. What are your areas of expertise?

Assessing what you as a company, are good at and understanding your USPs can really help when you’re searching for a topic to talk about during your next webinar.

If you’re an expert in your field and have a unique ‘hook’ that you feel will be valuable to audiences, then creating a webinar on this topic will not only provide value to users, but it will also establish you as a thought leader in your industry.

When brainstorming online event ideas, knowing your areas of expertise is incredibly important, as it allows you to focus your ideas on specific topics. That way, you can go more niche on a topic and find an interesting angle to discuss it, rather than opting for a subject that is too generic and will be lost in the void of identical webinars on the internet on the same topic.

3. What events, dates or releases are in your company calendar?

Glancing ahead to any important events or dates on the horizon can certainly inspire a few webinar ideas. For example, if you have an upcoming product release, you can use this as the basis for your next webinar to accompany the event and create a whole campaign around the topic for maximum engagement.

You can also create a marketing calendar with key dates for the year, so you can give your webinars a sense of timeliness and ensure that you drive more users to the live event. Say, you’re a marketer that wants to run a webinar on digital marketing, then you could tie your event to the Christmas holidays and create a webinar about Christmas marketing strategy best practices.

Or, are there big events happening within your industry that are worth covering? Your potential audience might be interested to explore what’s happening outside your business, and how it might affect them.

4. Have you got some interesting existing content?

While we’re talking about looking within your company for inspiration, why not raid the treasure trove of content you’re probably sitting on?

It’s all too common for marketers to create a great piece of content, publish it, promote it and totally forget about it. But, this piece of content could very well contain your next successful webinar.

Could a blog that you’ve written in the past perhaps be re-explored or re-purposed into a webinar for increased engagement? If so, then get your team to take a look and see what content can be revisited or expanded on.

Examples of some existing content you can repurpose include:

  • Blog Posts
  • Articles
  • eBooks
  • Whitepapers
  • Presentations

If you have a wealth of content at your disposal, think very carefully about dismissing it. As it just might be worth looking at again, in order to create a webinar that your audience will want to attend.

5. Keyword Research & Google Trends

Conducting your own keyphrase research using tools, such as Google Adwords Keyword Planner or Ahrefs Keyword Explorer is an effective way to find webinar inspiration. After all, the data based on user search trends from real people.

You can also determine user search trends by using Google Trends to compare searches for specific queries over selected periods of time, so you can opt for the terms with the highest search volumes and increases MoM.

However, I do suggest that you consider the search intent when choosing keyphrases (i.e. what users are looking to find when they type in that query). For webinars, it’s best practice to opt for informational search terms, so these are more longtail and answer user queries, such as: ‘How do I run a webinar?’ or ‘How do I use webinars for training?’.

Now you know how to come up with amazing webinar topic ideas, you’ll want to ensure you’re creating engaging content to keep your audience interested throughout the presentation. How do you do this?
