How Does a Webinar Work?
4:44

When you think of hosting a webinar, you might imagine a complex tech setup or feel overwhelmed about making it engaging. But trust us, it’s easier (and more fun!) than you think. Whether you're educating an audience, generating leads, or growing your brand's exposure, a webinar is a powerful tool that anyone can use. Let’s walk you through how a webinar works, from the initial idea to the final "on-demand" replay.

Step 1: Get the Right Platform in Place

The first step to hosting a successful webinar is having the right platform. That’s where WorkCast comes in (yes, a little shameless plug here). But seriously, a great webinar platform will handle all the logistics, from live streaming to engagement tools to post-event hosting. Pick one that’s reliable, easy to use, and designed to deliver a smooth experience for both you and your attendees.

Step 2: Pick a Date and Time

Timing matters. Choose a day that works well for your target audience. Keep in mind time zones, busy work periods, and holidays. Midweek, mid-morning, or afternoon tends to hit the sweet spot for many.

Step 3: Choose a Topic That Matters

Your webinar needs to offer value. The topic should align with your audience's interests or needs, whether it’s educational, inspirational, or purely entertaining. Think about what kind of questions they’re asking and how your expertise can provide the answers.

Step 4: Create a Catchy Title

A good title is like a hook. It grabs attention and makes people want to learn more. Keep it short, descriptive, and maybe even a bit playful. For example, instead of “Marketing Tactics,” go for “10 Smart Marketing Moves You Can’t Miss in 2024. My latest webinar is titled ”The Comfort Trap: Why Staying with Your Old Webinar Platform Could Be Holding You Back". Maybe a bit wordy, but hey it certainly hits the mark.

Step 5: Craft Engaging Content

Now, the heart of the webinar, the content. This can be about 10 pages alone with the content side, it's that important, basically, it doesn't matter how visually impressive your webinar looks, terrible content will turn people away very quickly. So you’ll want to prepare slides, visuals, videos, or even polls to keep things dynamic. A balance of information and interaction is key. Remember, people didn’t join to be lectured—they joined to learn and engage.

Step 6: Market It Like Crazy

To some this is the fun part, creating quirky outreach strategy's but to others it can be so difficult to share their webinar to the world. However, You’ve got the date, your topic, and your content. Now, it’s time to promote. Send out emails, share it on social media, get your team to spread the word. The more buzz you create, the more people will sign up. A good tip: emphasize what attendees will gain, whether it’s knowledge, actionable tips, or a fun, interactive experience. Maybe also try something original and fresh.

Step 7: Go Live!

This is another one that can have it's own blog post! but remember to have fun at this point! On the day of the webinar, log in early to ensure everything’s working smoothly. Welcome your attendees, keep the energy high, and follow your flow. The best webinars feel like a conversation, so keep things interactive, ask questions, run polls, and encourage participation. Still feeling a bit concerned about this part? Tune into this webinar on "How to prepare for a Live Webinar".

Step 8: Answer Questions

One of the biggest benefits of a live webinar is real-time engagement. Encourage attendees to ask questions during or at the end of the session. It’s a great way to build rapport and provide additional value. Plus, Q&A sections are often where the most interesting discussions happen!

Step 9: Host It On-Demand

Once the live event wraps up, the value doesn’t end there. Hosting your webinar on-demand is a great way to extend its life span. People who couldn’t attend live can watch it later, and you can continue promoting it as a resource.

Why Webinars Work for Everyone

Webinars aren’t just for one type of business. Whether you’re a startup or an established brand, webinars are an excellent way to showcase your expertise, connect with an audience, and generate leads. They’re versatile, cost-effective, and dare we say it pretty fun.
